Recent Projects
.............................................................................................................................
NEMOC undertakes a variety of marine and construction related works from provision of experienced in-house engineering design services to provision of offshore manpower and project support. With recent links to the Swan Hunter shipyard, our personnel have a proud history of having been involved with the design and building of many naval and commercial ships in the past supplanted with new management systems and offshore construction techniques. Below are details of a few recent projects undertaken over the past year which we feel demonstrates the range of our marine related support operations in the North East.
Allseas ‘Pieter Schelte’ Project
The Pieter Schelte project, undertaken for the Allseas Group a leading international offshore pipelaying contractor, commenced in 2007 with a contract to assist with the concept development and structural/outfit engineering of a new-build vessel intended for installation and decommissioning of large fixed offshore platforms and deepwater pipeline installations. With dimensions of 370m length, 117m width and 30m depth, and a maximum displacement of over 800,000 ton, it will be the world’s largest offshore vessel. NEMOC provided a team of in-house engineers working on the project to finalise the Clients initial concept and then to develop the design such that Lloyds approved arrangements could be submitted to shipyards for firm tenders.

Allseas ‘Audacia Conversion’ Project
NEMOC was able to supply construction supervisors, foremen and skilled manpower in the form of platers, welders, riggers, commissioning engineers and similar skilled operatives to assist with the conversion of a large bulk carrier into an offshore pipeline installation vessel, the ‘Audacia’, for the Allseas Group. The work was undertaken in Holland with NEMOC arranging for all transportation, accommodation and overseas support for a large contingent of our skilled employees, many of whom had experience with similar conversion project undertaken in the North East of England. They were selected on their experience and ability to quickly blend in to the client’s project requirements seamlessly.

Allseas ‘Solitaire’ Thruster Retrofit Project
Previously converted from a bulk carrier into a pipelay vessel in 1998 in Wallsend, ‘Solitaire’, currently the world’s largest offshore pipeline installation vessel underwent an upgrading exercise in 2009 including the installation of two new thruster units located in its aft wing tanks. NEMOC undertook the layout engineering, structural design and preparation of construction drawings necessary to enable the work to be executed in the shortest possible time in a yard of the clients choosing once a refit window had been identified. Having experienced engineers and draughtsmen familiar with the original vessel conversion was very beneficial in being able to undertake the retrofit design work quickly and efficiently.

Canyon Offshore Yard Support
Having large deepwater quayside facilities available at Wallsend, NEMOC was able
to support Canyon Offshore and several of its local contractors and suppliers during
the upgrading of trencher facilities onboard the ‘Island Pioneer’ multi-purpose
offshore construction vessel. NEMOC were able to provide ample berthing and
craneage facilities as well as a large load-out and storage areas for the upgraded
equipment plus office & utilities support, rigging, construction and security services.

Reliance Support Project
Reliance, one of the largest oil & gas operators in the Indian subcontinent, awarded a contract to Allseas Group for design, construction and installation of a large offshore project in India. As part of the project, Allseas commissioned a pipe-laying spread to be prepared in Norway and transported to India to assist with the work. NEMOC was able to supply experienced barge crews including superintendents, foremen, riggers etc., both in Norway and India to assist with barge preparations, offshore vessel operations and onshore construction support work.
